FAQs
WHY DO YOU RECOMMEND BOOKING DIRECTLY WITH DUNKERLEY’S?
Wherever possible, we recommend booking directly with Dunkerley’s through our own website or by contacting us by phone or email. This means your reservation comes directly to our team, allowing us to confirm availability, help with room requests and deal with any changes personally.
From time to time, hotel rooms may appear on third-party websites that are not managed or authorised by us. Some of these sites can look very similar to an official hotel booking page, but their availability, prices or booking information may not always be fully up to date. In some circumstances this can lead to incorrect reservations or duplicate bookings that are outside our direct control.
If you are ever unsure whether you are booking directly with Dunkerley’s, please contact us before making payment. Our official website is dunkerleys.co.uk and our team will always be happy to check a booking for you.
DO YOU HAVE SEA-VIEW ROOMS?
We do. All 4 of our Principal rooms have beautiful sea views across the English Channel, and 2 of our Standard rooms have corner sea views. If a sea view is important to your stay, we recommend booking directly with us so we can help you choose the most suitable room.
IS DUNKERLEY’S HOTEL ON DEAL SEAFRONT?
Yes. Dunkerley’s Hotel & Restaurant is right on Deal seafront at 19–21 Beach Street, with only the road between us and the beach. Deal Pier is just moments away and Deal Station is around a 5-minute walk.
ARE YOUR HOTEL ROOMS AIR-CONDITIONED?
Yes. All 16 of our hotel bedrooms are air-conditioned, including our Principal, Standard and Budget rooms.
IS DUNKERLEY’S SUITABLE FOR FAMILIES?
Yes. Our larger Principal rooms can accommodate an additional single bed if required, making them a comfortable option for families staying in Deal. If you are travelling with children, contact us directly and we can help with the most suitable room.
DOES DUNKERLEY’S HOTEL HAVE ITS OWN RESTAURANT?
Yes. Our restaurant and bistro are both part of Dunkerley’s Hotel & Restaurant, so hotel guests can enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner without leaving the property.
DO YOU SERVE FRESH FISH AND SEAFOOD?
Yes. Fresh fish and seafood are a big part of our menus, alongside classic British dishes and seasonal ingredients. Our current menus regularly feature dishes such as oysters, scallops, Dover sole, local plaice, mussels, lobster and other seafood depending on availability.
IS DUNKERLEY’S FAMILY-RUN?
Yes. Dunkerley’s has been family-run on Deal seafront since 1987. Ian and Linda Dunkerley built the business over almost four decades, and the next generation of the family remains involved today.
DO YOU ALLOW DOGS?
We don't allow dogs inside the premises, whether that be restaurant, bistro or hotel. If you'd like to come and enjoy our menu with your furry friend, we do have outdoor seating with a large umbrella on our terrace and tables on the podium. We're also happy to provide water bowls. We do of course allow service dogs.
WHERE CAN WE PARK?
We don’t have private on-site parking, but Deal has several public car parks within easy walking distance. Middle Street Car Park is our closest and is particularly useful for overnight stays. For a 2pm hotel check-in, putting enough time on the meter to cover you until 11am check-out the following morning is usually the simplest option. There are also three 10-hour car parks, a 24-hour car park and some free overnight seafront parking nearby, subject to availability. The service road outside Dunkerley’s can be used briefly for dropping off guests and unloading luggage, but we don’t advise leaving your car there as you risk receiving a ticket.
WHAT ARE YOUR OPENING HOURS?
We are open 8am-11pm to the public, our service times are:
Breakfast 8am-11am
Lunch 12pm-2.30pm Monday-Saturday and 12pm-3pm on Sunday
Dinner 6pm-9.30pm Sunday-Friday and 6pm-10pm on Saturday.
We are open for drinks in the Bistro between those times.
ARE YOU ACCESSIBLE TO WHEELCHAIR USERS?
Our Bistro and Restaurant are located on the ground floor, they are separated by a few steps but we do have a door that enters the Restaurant from the street if stairs are an issue. Our bathrooms from the Bistro are accessible, but from the restaurant there are steps, if you require step-free dining we would advise booking a table in the Sundeck, make a note on your booking or give us a call to arrange this.
Our hotel rooms are on the 1st and 2nd floors and are accessible via staircases only, we are on hand throughout the day to help with luggage and support anyone who may need it.
DO YOU CATER FOR PRIVATE EVENTS?
We don't have a private dining room, but we have hosted many private functions either in our Restaurant or in our Reception, depending on needs. All events are organised on a case by case basis, from Wakes to Birthdays, sit down set menus to roaming buffets, we're sure we can make your event run smoothly.
CAN YOU CATER FOR ALLERGIES OR GLUTEN-FREE, VEGETARIAN AND VEGAN DIETS?
Yes. We offer vegetarian and vegan dishes, and because most of our food is freshly cooked to order using recipes created in-house, we can often adapt dishes to accommodate gluten-free diets and other dietary requirements.
If you have a food allergy, intolerance or coeliac disease, please let us know when booking and speak to your server before ordering. Our team can provide information about the regulated allergens in our dishes and advise which options may be suitable for you.
As our kitchen handles a range of ingredients and allergens, the suitability of a dish will depend on your individual requirements and the risk of cross-contact. We therefore ask guests with allergies to speak with us directly rather than relying solely on menu descriptions, so we can give you the most accurate and up-to-date information.
I BOOKED A ROOM VIA BOOKING.COM AND NEED TO CANCEL, CAN YOU HELP ME?
If you book through a third-party provider, any changes or cancellations usually need to be made directly with that provider. When you book directly with Dunkerley’s, our team has full access to your reservation and can help with changes, room requests and questions more easily.
WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?
For our Restaurant we kindly ask you to let us know if you're running late or if you're no longer able to attend your booking, just so we know to expect you. For our Hotel, we have a 48 hour cancellation policy, if you cancel 48 hours before your check in time we will give you a full refund, within 48 hours you will be charged the full amount of the first nights stay (if you have a 2 night stay and cancel within 48 hours of the 2nd nights stay, you will be charged for the 2nd night too). If you have booked with a third party site rather than directly with us, please be aware cancellation policies may differ and we have no control over this.
WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO MAKE YOURSELF ENVIRONMENTALLY SUSTAINABLE?
We do our best to reduce our impact on the environment, in recent years we have removed our restaurant tablecloths, meaning we run our washing machine and iron significantly less; we exclusively use paper straws; we don't provide plastic cups for takeaway drinks; out of the summer months we cease to use packet condiments and opt for ramekins on request; our menus are designed with the season in mind with accompaniments used in various ways across the menu to reduce waste. We know there will be further improvements to make in the future and we look forward to implementing those as soon as we can.
If you were unable to solve your query here please contact us and we'll be happy to help.
